Urn vaults are small versions of full sized burial vaults. They are used to protect
cremation urns when earth burial of cremated human remains is desired. Often a
cremation urn itself is made of a rather fragile material and is not suitable to
be placed directly into the ground. Prior to burial, the urn is placed into the
urn vault. Urn vaults are typically manufactured from synthetic marble, concrete,
or fiberglass. Many cemeteries require the use of an urn vault so that the grave
will not sink or settle.
